Rancho Sienna-isms
A General (Lingo) Guide for New (and Current) RSE Families
- Announcements: Morning announcements completed by Mr. Russo or Mrs. Johnson.
- Book Fair: A fundraiser for our superb library. Students fill out a “wish list” and parents have several opportunities to come in and shop. This is run by our Library Department.
- Dancing through the Decades: Run by our specials department, this is an annual district event where students learn dances during specials and perform a dance for parents to see in February during Valentines week.
- Donuts with Dudes: Hosted by Watch D.O.G.S. but PTO sponsored. Dads enjoy breakfast (and small talk) before school at RSE with their students in the spring.
- Field Day: Annual event held in May where RSE students have a chance to do a number of outdoor activities. This is run by our Specials Department.
- 5th grade Reunion Ranch Trip: Each spring 5th graders venture to Reunion Ranch for an outdoor education field trip.
- Muffins with Misses: PTO sponsored event in the Spring. We celebrate motherly figures with breakfast at RSE before school.
- Meet the Teacher: A family opportunity in August to see your child's classroom and meet their teacher.
- PTO: Parent Teacher Organization.
- Purple Folder: Your student will bring home his or her purple folder every day. The folder will give you a report on behavior as well as contain homework, graded work and important classroom information. You will need to sign it daily. It’s a magic portal for communication as well, send it in the Purple Folder, and it gets where it’s supposed to go. It’s quite amazing, really.
- Rancho Rodeo/Silent Auction: Annual carnival event held in the spring that is hosted by the RSE PTO – used to raise funds to provide materials and supplies to our school.
- Rad Run: Annual fundraiser that is held in the fall ending with a color run. It’s a day full of fun for students and staff! Parents are allowed to attend. This event is also used to raise funds for events such as field trips, staff development, school dances, etc.
- Spirit Day: Every Friday, students are encouraged to show their RSE spirit by wearing a RSE t-shirt.
- Skyward: Online service that allows parents to pay for cafeteria accounts and check up on what their kids are buying in the cafeteria. This is also a website where you can see your child's grades, absences, etc.
- RSE: Rancho Sienna Elementary
- Room Parents: One/Two parents per class help coordinate classroom volunteers and volunteers needed for PTO events. These parents also decorate the door monthly and help out with teacher requests.
- Spirit Sticks: Spirit Sticks are small embroidered patches that students display on their backpacks on a keychain. These can be purchased by students themselves once a month during their lunch time. Spirit Sticks are $1 a piece. Keychains are $2 a piece. Please have your child bring cash only during Spirit Stick sales.
- Spring Fling: Run by our Specials Department, Spring Fling is a one day event where students participate in hands-on physical and fun activities. This is not open for parents to attend as it is during their specials time right before Spring Break.
- Teacher Appreciation Week: PTO sponsored week to show how much we appreciate the entire staff at RSE.
- Watch D.O.G.S.: composed of parents from Rancho Sienna Elementary who support and choose a day to volunteer at the school with their child's teacher(s) and staff. Watch D.O.G.S. stands for Dads of Great Students.
- RSE Store: PTO powered online store available throughout the year. In the online store you can purchase spirit wear, RSE stickers, etc.
